With the amount of businesses arising in the City of Los Angeles, it is without a doubt the most compact city that rely mostly on vehicles. The traffic congestion in Los Angeles has worsen over the years due to its increasing population and its worldwide known businesses. This is also most likely due to its attractions such as the famous Hollywood boulevard, Santa Monica Piers, and Downtown Los Angeles. Los Angeles city has one of the worst traffic congestion in the United States. Many trends are considering the fact that it will only worsen throughout the years and will probably become problematic in terms of pollution and road hazards. Traffic congestion excessively hinders quality of life. It is also economically wasteful and damaging the environment. Therefore, searching for efficient strategies and techniques for mitigating congestion will serve many social goals in the community. The Los Angeles County has been producing programs to be implemented and improved traffic within about five years or so. The 10 primary strategies are[1]:
1. Improve signal control and timing
2. Restrict curb parking on busy days
3. Implement one-way streets
4. Promote ride-sharing or “carpool,” telecommuting, and flexible work schedules
5. Develop high- occupancy toll-lane network systems
6. Vary curb-parking rates with demand
7. Enforce the current parking cash-out law
8. Promote discount transit passes
9. Expand bus rapid transit and bus lane
10. Implement bicycle network
These strategies are important to follow and implement to manage and reduce hours of travel, increase transportation revenues, improve alternative options of other transportation, and make use of existing capacity more efficiently.
